The reason why is that women retain their identity in the marriage when they contribute to the family financially and their self esteem remains high. Women who give up their careers to be stay at home mom’s do so at a tremendous sacrifice–it is a very worthy cause–but mother’s should absolutely maintain adult conversations and keep one foot in their careers somehow so that they don’t lose their identity, become all about the kids and then lose the ability to connect with adults and their spouse on non-child related topics. Spouses need variety in conversation and connection. When Mom’s give up themselves to become Mom, they also give up the ability to be a wife and husbands lose out on the things that connected them to their wives before the kids came along. It is a struggle nonetheless to do it all – but women know how to juggle many roles and they certainly can add to the list the role of Mom without giving up the role of Wife!
