I finally found a book that describes the races according to how I was taught overseas. Caucasian (European, Indian); Black African; Oceanic (Melanesian, Micronesian, Polynesian, Australian Aboriginal); Mongolian (Asian, Native American). I’ve had difficulty finding this documented in this country. The book is Who You Are by Malcolm Godwin
– and is a great tool to gain a deeper understanding of who you are!
Here is the Assessment by Malcolm Godwin that is designed to test whether you are completely comfortable with yourself as you are, or whether you have some doubts as to your intrinsic worth. For those of you who have heard me speak lately, you know I am studying cultural legacy jump started by Malcolm Gladwell’s book , Outliers,
and how it plays into our relationship journey. Interesting that both books are by Malcolm – I suppose I will be researching the meaning of Malcolm later this evening.
The assessment is a Yes/No question and answer assessment.
How much do you think your racial make-up has contributed to your mental, spiritual, and psychological view of the world? Would you sya that it has:
- Allowed you to fit easily into your social group?
- Alienated you from your peers?
- Given you a social advantage?
- Made you feel proud to be part of your race?
- Made you feel ashamed to be part of your race?
- Helped you to become outgoing?
- Forced you to look inward?
- Allowed you to excel in a chosen occupation?
- Deprived you of an opportunity to excel?
- Allowed you to merge easily into society?
- Made you aware that you differ from the norm?
- Made you feel joyful, thankful, and accepted?
- Made you feel wretched, unworthy, and rejected?
- Allowed you to fit in wherever you go?
- Forced you to join like-minded exiles?
- Made you feel superior in a different country?
- Made you feel inferior in a different country?
- Made you feel attractive to other races?
- Made you feel unattractive to other races?
- Made little difference to who you are?
- Made you glad you were born as you are?
- Made all the difference to who you are?
- Made you glad you were born as you are?
- Made you wish you were of some other race?
If you answer “YES” to 9 or more ODD numbered questions, it suggests you are confident and find your race as no obstacle. If you answer “YES” to 9 or more EVEN numbered questions, it suggests you feel unaccepted and even unacceptable to others within your circles. I found this very interesting and wanted to share it…
And if you were wondering, I got 9 Yes’s to the even numbered questions at my current age, 39 and holding. I also took it from the perspective of being 11 when I moved to the United States from the U.K. and I ended up with a lot of Yes’s to even numbered questions. Fascinating!
