85% say to get a boy’s attention! What is defined as racy? Pictures in bras and undies are considered child porn. The teenage boy who was mad at his ex-girlfriend sent the pictures his girlfriend sent him to his entire contact list in a moment of anger.
Parents, you must educate your children on the sexting rage and the risks as well as the potential legal implications.
The boy who sent pictures of his girlfriend deeply regrets his actions; he is now a registered sex offender for sending child porn. He had recently turned 18 and his ex-girlfriend was younger. He will be listed as a sex offender for 20 years and is on a 5 year probation.
More importantly, girls, getting a boy’s attention is NOT worth putting your morals on the line to do so. Boys will not take you seriously much less give you the respectful attention you deserve. Boys will take you seriously when they want to and when they are interested; if you do things to get their attention in a way that you are disrespectful of yourself, you are asking for disrespect in return. The sole blame should not be put on boys.
Parents, talk to your pre-teens/tweens, and teens about sexting – and do send them to a conscious dating class for teens (offered here or inquire by posting a comment to this post for more information). The things we as boomers or gen-xr’s dealt with when dating are not representative of what teens are dealing with today; avoiding it is not helping; comparing ourselves to our kids does not help either. We must acknowledge and understand what our kids are dealing with and be compassionate in educating them so that they are abundantly informed to make wiser choices going forward!
