I say that getting married after years of dating or even living together, as in the case of Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, does not doom the relationship. Quite often we hear of stories where relationships fail after couples tied the knot after having dated or lived together for several years. The tendency is to blame getting married for the reason the couple split. It is never MARRIAGE that causes the relationship to fail, come on how can a contract or deeper commitment cause a relationship to fail? AND, it is not the age difference that causes a marriage to fail either.
The marriage goes to splitsville because the people involved did not address their issues during the relationship, married or not. We don't know if the relationship would have ended or not if the couple had continued to be together and not get married! It irks me that people are so quick to point fingers at marriage being to blame. No, No, No — the people, their issues and not being conscious of their issues results in problems in the relationship. AND, if you are in a relationship and you think you have no issues, that everything is perfect, THINK AGAIN!
Every relationship has issues, concerns or things that trigger upset, disappointment, and even anger and frustration that if not handled early on, become mountains that cannot be overcome called 'Irreconcilable Differences'!
Crikey, hire a Relationship Expert to help you sort through the issues whether you think you have any or not – working with a Relationship Expert is not painful, I promise you. It is a very freeing, peace-of-mind giving, and affirming conversation, where you do not discuss what is wrong with you and your relationship, instead you talk about what works, what does not work, implement immediate solutions, and eliminate any triggers that cause friction immediately – you have a partner committed to your success in life and love – what can be better than that?
